Sociocultural Background Kids

The project "Sociocultural Background Kids" (SoMeKids) aims to develop a new student questionnaire to measure the sociocultural background of young kids in 2nd grade.

Young kids might not be able to give reliable responses to traditional questions regarding parents' education or occupation. Given this, we suggest new questions that children at this age could give more reliable answers to, e.g., eating habits, leisure activities, and reading interests. The face validity of the newly constructed questionnaire was judged by an expert panel. To empirically validate student answers, we ask parents the same question and will compare student and parents' data. 130 students in 2nd grade and their parents in Canton St. Gallen participated in this project. The project team at the St.Gallen University of  Teacher Education thanks the Department of Education of the Canton of St. Gallen for their support.
