Digital Learning Platforms - Lernlupe and Lernpass plus

The Swiss digital learning platforms Lernlupe and Lernpass plus support an adaptive assessment of learning progress and personalized learning experiences for the core subjects in compulsory schools

The digital learning platforms Lernlupe for the 3rd to 6th grade and Lernpass plus for the 7th to 9th grade are digital learning platforms facilitating an individual support of students. They are an important part of the educational landscape in Eastern Switzerland, not least through delivering the standardized assessment of student achievements (Stellwerk) and the Jobskills platform to support career choices.

The platforms are aligned to Lehrplan 21, the Swiss national curriculum for compulsory schools in the German-speaking cantons. They are available for all schools since 2017. They offer teachers and students various functions for an adaptive competence assessment and personalized support, as well as functions for lesson planning and the communication between teachers and students.

The digital learning platforms feature the core subjects mathematics, languages (German, English, French) as well as science. Lernlupe and Lernpass plus thus represent a valuable instrument for the development and implementation of modern, technology enhanced teaching and learning in compulsory schools and are a flagship project all across Europe.

The platforms are developed and distributed by the educational publishers Lehrmittelverlag St.Gallen in cooperation with Lehrmittelverlag Zürich. Since August 2021, the PHSG is responsible for educational contents, item pools as well as the scientific support of conceptual-functional developments.

Organization and Tasks

The learning support systems represent a cross institute project at the PHSG. The project bundles the competence of the Institutes for Language Teacher Education, for Science Teacher Education and for Educational Assessment to enhance the quality of the contents, to develop the items pools and to support the conceptual development on a solid scientific basis.

Recent and future developments increase the functional alignment to the requirements and demands from educational practice. Personalization and individual support is advanced featuring cutting edge technologies. The tasks of the PHSG include:

  • Development of test and learning items
  • Maintaining and updating the existing item pools
  • Scientific-psychometric support
  • Configuration and monitoring of adaptive testing algorithms
  • Organization of piloting and standardization studies
  • Quality management
  • Conceptual and functional advancements
